PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This continuing education module is intended to train US health providers who care for patients who are Latin American immigrants. This CE module reviews the three most common and serious parasitic diseases among Latin American immigrants: Chagas disease, Cysticercosis, Leishmaniasis and also reviews some cultural competency concepts.

OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of the session, the participant will be able to:
- Describe how cultural and linguistic competency, or lack thereof, can influence health outcomes
- Identify ways that U.S. medical providers can successfully implement culturally and linguistically competent care into their practice
- Identify the clinical manifestations of Chagas disease
- Describe the pathogenesis and transmission of Chagas disease
- Summarize the risk factors of Chagas disease
- Understand the initial steps for medical management of Chagas disease
- Identify the clinical manifestations of cysticercosis
- Describe the pathogenesis and transmission of cysticercosis
- Summarize the risk factors for cysticercosis
- Identify specific diagnostic, treatment and preventative measures for cysticercosis
- Identify the clinical manifestations of leishmaniasis
- Describe the pathogenesis and transmission of leishmaniasis
- Summarize the risk factors for leishmaniasis
- Identify specific diagnostic and treatment measures for leishmaniasis
